LICA Pharmaceuticals A/S was founded in April 2000. The scientific platform of the company has existed for more than 12 years. The following is a brief history of the company:

1993-2000: Extesive studies in the field of medicinal chemistry, quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR), antiparasitic and antibacterial screening, mechanism of action, and in vivo anti-malarial and anti-leishmanial studies were carried out at the Royal Danish School of Pharmacy and the University Hospital. During this period large number of articles were published in reputable scientific journals. 

1997: Another comprehensive patent application covering the new compounds and their use as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and other properties was filed.

2000: LICA Pharmaceuticals A/S was founded in April 2000, and all the patent rights and related know-how were transferred to the company.

2000: HealthCap invested 4 M€ in LICA Pharmaceuticals in October 2000, and the company moved to its present facilities at Symbion Science Park, Copenhagen in November 2000.

2001-2003: Extensive progress in the field of medicinal chemistry, bioanalysis and microbiology was made. Novel compounds with potent antibacterial and antiparasitic activities were synthesized. In vivo proof of efficacy in animal models of malaria and Leishmania was achieved.

2003: The Candidate Drug against malaria was selected for further development.

2003: The candidate drug against leishmaniasis was selected for further development.
